Freedom Online Conference in Ulaanbaatar

Monday, May 4, 2015 to Tuesday, May 5, 2015

The Industry Dialogue enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the 2015 Freedom Online Conference in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from May 4-5.

The Industry Dialogue organized Workshop 3 on Good Policy Practices in Online Freedom on May 4.  This workshop sought to build on information published by Vodafone Group and TeliaSonera regarding the legal frameworks that govern state access to customer communications and capacity to restrict content in several of these companies’ markets.  Panellists from different stakeholder groups offered perspectives on what good policy looks like regarding government access to communications data and power to restrict content, as well as practical challenges faced when drafting and implementing the relevant legal frameworks.   All participants were invited to share their experience and expertise on promoting laws that foster online freedom.
